Big Akwa is a groundbreaking food-tech start-up that is revolutionizing land-based aquaculture through the implementation of industrial symbiosis. Our solution introduces a more efficient, circular approach to fish production, with low-temperature waste heat from the plant being used to warm up fish farm water, enabling faster fish growth and lower energy consumption. Additionally, the dirty water from the fish farm can be converted into a resource for the industry. By utilizing new technology, sharing resources and infrastructure, we are able to significantly reduce the environmental impact of fish farms while also reducing capital investments by up to 20%. This means that sustainable fish can be farmed in a closed loop each year, with no nutrients released into nature.
